CAST A VOTE FOR MY SHORT STORY PROJECT // i'm going to write short stories based off songs!

Happy Monday! I hope all of you are happy and healthy, wherever you are and whatever you've been up to. I have, once again, a fairly short announcement to share with you today. As I said not too long ago, I HAS PLANS. Many bloggy plans. They're all coming to light and I couldn't be more excited.

Today I am especially excited because I want to tell you about a short story project I'm going to do right here on this blog - and give you the opportunity to be involved!

Basically, what I want to do is pick a music album and write a series of short stories based off it, i.e. each story will be inspired by a song in the album. The stories will (likely) be completely separate from one another. I don't expect to have any serial stories in this project. All stand-alones. But I will be going in order of the songs in the album. XD And, of course, I will post my short stories here throughout the coming weeks and months, as I get them written.

Here's the thing, though. I don't know which music album to use for this project. I came up with three I thought would prove to be fun challenges, but I can't deciiiiide. So this is where you come in! I NEED YOUR VOTE.

Here are the candidates:

Ocean Eyes ~ Owl City

I would probably use the deluxe version of this album, though I'm not 100% on that yet. But AAAAHHH the songs on this album are super beautiful and I'd have a lovely time writing romances and soft fantasy with it. <3 Including soft magic, I imagine. And just lots of softness (mixed with some danger and intensity, I'm sure).

The Search ~ NF

This would probably be the most challenging one to use, considering a lot of the songs are specific to the artist's musical career. But never underestimate my ability to pull fantasy/sci-fi ideas (I envision gritty dystopian settings and dark/sassy protags here??) from song lyrics, no matter how specific. I'd enjoy stretching my creative muscles with this one. XD

Blurryface ~ Twenty One Pilots

This one would just be SO much fun. There are endless possibilities for quirky speculative fiction within the lyrics of these songs. I could come up with some seriously intense content. XD This band knows to how to weave its own bizarre story with its music, but I'd have an epic time coming up with my own fictional ideas based off their songs.

As a final note, most of the short stories will proooobably be flash fiction. In other words, many of them will be 1000 words or less. Quick reads. That's another reason I'm excited for this self-imposed challenge - dipping my toes back into flash fic!
